Sister Zigo graduated from The College of Saint Rose in 1980, and is now an Assistant Professor at LeMoyne College in Syracuse. Her place on the board will allow her to be connected to the college in new and different ways. Her thorough understanding of education programs and the overall values of the College of Saint Rose make her a worthy candidate for the position.
"Her expertise and experience in the area of academic programs at colleges along with her understanding and commitment to the mission of The College of Saint Rose were impressive to other trustees," said Deb Liberatore, Assistant to the President at the college. One of Liberatore's responsibilities is to work in conjunction with the board. She said that while there is no specific "checklist" of qualifications that a member must have; it is important that the board as a whole is comprised of people from a variety of backgrounds.
"The current composition of the board, and the skills and talents of current trustees may determine what skills, expertise, and talents the board is looking to add to its membership," said Liberatore.
The board of trustees is made up of 36 volunteers who serve three-year terms. This group is divided into smaller, more focused committees such as the Educational Programs Committee and Mission and Values Committee, both of which Sister Zigo is a member. The full board meets three times a year, while the committees meet more regularly. Stated in the bylaws of the board of trustees, they "have all necessary and convenient powers to direct and manage the business and affairs of the college." These new responsibilities give Sister Zigo the opportunity to be once again involved in the happenings on campus.
"I'm looking forward to learning about the very exciting and promising initiatives of the school," said Sister Zigo, "and to be able to contribute in any way."
In addition to having a direct influence on the college's endeavors, being on the board of trustees gives Sister Zigo the unexpected opportunity to reconnect with an old friend and fellow classmate. Judy Calogero, elected trustee in 2006, is starting her second term on the board. Coincidentally, Calogero was Sister Zigo's roommate when they were freshmen at Saint Rose.
