President Obama spoke to the crowd at Hudson Valley Community College on Monday, September 21.

President Barack Obama visited Hudson Valley Community College around midday on Monday to tour a technology classroom as well as deliver a speech on the economy. President Obama's speech detailed how new innovative technologies taught in the classroom will create more jobs in the future, as well as move our economy in the right Direction.

The talk of the Capital Region was President Obama's visit over the past few days, but with the event here it was time to understand his real reason for coming to upstate New York; in particular Troy.

President Obama focused on how the continued education of Americans will contribute to not only the revitalization of our economy, but sustainability.

President Obama stated "Today, my administration is releasing our strategy to foster new jobs, new businesses, and new industries by laying the groundwork and the ground rules to best tap our innovative potential. For this strategy is about far more than recovery; it is about sustained growth and widely-shared prosperity. And it is rooted in a simple idea, that if government does its modest part, there is no stopping the most powerful and generative economic force the world has ever known: the American people."

According to the President Hudson Valley Community College is one of the main ingredients in his new strategy. By tapping into the new technologies such as green, semiconductor manufacturing, alternative fuels, photovoltaic, geo-thermal and wind energy systems we can better prepare ourselves to take on all of these new businesses in our own backyard instead of abroad. Hudson Valley has its hands in each and every one of these innovative technologies. One major partnership is with the new company in Malta, New York which is Global Foundries; a semiconductor manufacturing plant.

Hector Ruiz CEO of Global Foundries stated "The fact that the administration is coming to Hudson Valley Community College is indicative that this is something that brings great promise." When asked why Hudson Valley is at the forefront of a lot of this new technology training Ruiz stated that "You guys in New York did your homework."

Having this sort of training in these technologies is key to being able to supply the future demand of all of these jobs. President of HVCC Andrew Matonak stated "Hudson Valley is a key part of tech valley due to its ability to train its workforce."

It's really cool that Obama came to Hudson Valley. It sounds like he and the administration have a solid plan for technology's role in education, and I think that's reassuring. (Continued…)
