She has also done several radio segments for Saint Rose Radio, which can be found on the Saint Rose Communications website.
"She produced some excellent interviews for Internet Radio Saint Rose," said Fred Antico, chair of the Communications Department who also teaches a radio production course at the college. "She served as producer on programs such as Golden Knights Athletics, Periodical Radio, Saint Rose Live, Focus on Wellness, and Artist Spotlight."
In addition to her communications-related activities, Hopper has been coaching the upcoming swimmers and divers for the Saint Rose team on various techniques.
Hopper, the only female diver on the swim team, has been diving since the seventh grade, "as sort of a continuation of my past gymnastics career," she said.
"I looked at it as just gymnastics off a board into water, not realizing that diving was so much more than just that," said Hopper.
Her specialty is the springboard diving off the 1 and 3 meter diving boards, but she prefers two other types of dives.
"My favorite dives definitely have to be inwards and reverses," said Hopper. Essentially, an inward dive is going off the board backwards, and then diving forwards. A reverse dive is the opposite of an inward.
Hopper has won several awards for her diving, including placement in the Top Eight at the Metropolitan Conference Championships the past two years.
"Jamie is a sweetheart and cares tremendously about the [swim and dive] team," said Brandon Birchak, a former co-diver and Hopper's diving mentor.
Although her schedule has been chockfull of schoolwork and swim meets, Hopper found time to be a lifeguard at the college pool and waitress at the Hilton Garden Inn. She has season tickets to the Mets and Giants, too. Hopper still has enough time to spend time with her friends, play board games, and listen to music.
"You learn how to multi-task⦠I'm very good at multitasking," said Hopper of her numerous interests and jobs.
Most students would not be able to manage their time as well as Hopper does. She's passionate about the Communications field and swimming and diving.
"Her goals are important enough to her to make ends meet regardless of the time constraints or lack of sleep," Birchak said.
