"I think when someone sees something billed as 'an evening of slam poetry,' it usually means a high energy and passionate evening of poetry," O'Keefe Aptowicz said.

She said the goal of slam poetry is to engage the audience and bring poetry to life.

The final Frequency North event of the semester is expected to have a good turnout, according to Nester.

"We get anywhere from 50 to 90 people," Nester said. "Pretty good for a reading, as opposed to a rock concert or a basketball game."

Students are also looking forward to seeing the slam poets performing at Frequency North. Katie Vermilyea, a senior English major, is excited about her second time seething them.

"I've seen both poets read live in New York City and I thought their work was phenomenal. I'm quite a fan of slam poetry, so to see two of the best slam poets in person is not something I would miss," Vermilyea said.

For those students interested in poetry, writing and comedy, this event is not to be missed. Vermilyea tries to attend all of the Frequency North readings.

"Perhaps one of the greatest benefits of going to one of the readings is to see someone who has taken something that they love to do and made a career out of it." Vermilyea said. "The readers are passionate about their work and are always willing to speak with students."
