The College of Saint Rose baseball squad ran its win streak to four games with a sweep of Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern New Hampshire last Saturday.
The Golden Knights (5-13/3-0 NE-10) won the opener 4-0 and took the finale 4-1. The two games were played at Bryant University due to wet field conditions at Southern New Hampshire.
?Junior right-hander Nick DeMidio scattered four base hits and fanned six, while walking only one over the distance to collect the win in game one. DeMidio faced the minimum throughout the first five innings on the way to his second victory of the year.?
Sophomore right-fielder Jake Perez went 3-for-4 and scored twice, while freshman designated hitter Grant Smith finished 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI to provide all the offense DeMidio needed.?? Senior second baseman Ryan Thompson went 2-for-4 to lead the Penmen (2-8/0-2 NE-10).?
Saint Rose broke open a scoreless game in the seventh when freshman second baseman Nick Polsinelli reached on an error and Perez stroked a double to right field. Smith then scored both of them with a base hit through the right side.?
The Golden Knights tacked on two more runs in the ninth. Freshman designated hitter Angel Nunez belted a two-out, triple to right-center that scored Perez, who singled one batter earlier. Junior left fielder Brett Weber followed with a base hit up the middle that brought across Nunez with the game's last run.?
In the finale, Saint Rose benefited from another outstanding pitching performance as sophomore left-hander Jake Kozar allowed only a run and fanned a career-high 11 batters without issuing a walk throughout 7.0 innings on the hill.?
Sophomore outfielder Ryan Price went 2-for-3 and scored twice, while freshman first baseman Ryan Ross doubled to the gap in right-center in the eighth that turned a 2-1 Saint Rose lead into a 4-1 cushion.?? Junior right fielder Scott Strong went 3-for-4 to lead the Southern New Hampshire attack.??
