Karaoke night unleashes the singers inside students

For three hours in St. Joseph's Auditorium, some of The College Saint Rose students, and faculty, were karaoke stars.

Students sang along to contemporary songs with help from the Karaoke Dokies, a band under the Live Band Karaoke group from Chicago, Illinois. The groups play all around Chicago and can also be booked for corporate and college events. The band is made up of Joe Fosset on guitar and vocals, Scott Stade on bass guitar and Addison Monroe on drums. Jill, the MC for the night, also did double duty as lead singer for a few songs while simultaneously keeping the audience entertained into the late hours of the night.

The audience did not need to be kept awake, because the singers and loud music could not be contained within the walls of the auditorium. There were a wide variety of genres represented in the songs covered, and a variety of students performed. The list of songs that the band was willing to cover ranged from David Bowie to The Temptations, and from Divinyls to the Rolling Stones. The students did not have to worry about forgetting the lyrics, as the lyric sheets were graciously provided.

Tom DeCicco, the current chairperson of Musical Entertainment on Campus for the Student Board, believes the Karaoke Night was a great success, and explains how the Student Events Board goes about planning events, including last Friday night.

"I think the event went extremely well, there were about 70 people there and there was so much participation. I for one was happy with the turn out and outcome of the event," said DeCicco. "When S.E.B. plans events we have to cover everything from booking the entertainment, to feeding the entertainment, to housing the entertainment. It's pretty in-depth, but once you get used to it, it becomes second nature. As far as setting up for the event, I got together with Alicia [Audino], the president of Student Events Board, and helped unload the [Karaoke Dokie's] from there, they just set up and did their thing," DeCicco said.
