Paul Bassinson would have been the Founder of the Saint Rose Aviation Club, if the club was able to take off from the landing strip. According to Bassinson, the informational meeting held on January 25th yielded no group members. The creation of an aviation club is worth mentioning because of the beneficial opportunities it could provide for aviation enthusiasts. Bassinson talked about his desire to start an Aviation Club.

"I got the idea for the Saint Rose Aviation Club when I was doing a project for Luke Schmonsky's Career Management class in the Spring 2006 semester. We were assigned to present on a career, and I chose a pilot. When I was doing my research, I noticed that several colleges had aviation clubs. I realized that Saint Rose was right near the Albany International Airport, and I wanted to be able to put something big on my resume, so I thought that it might be a good idea to try and start an aviation club here."

The idea of the St. Rose Aviation Club sounds interesting and Bassinson is merely suggesting to reap the benefits from the proximity of the college to the Albany International Airport.

Calling all future pilots, flight attendants and airplane mechanics, the benefits of being involved in an aviation club would enhance future résumés. The big question: What would be the purpose of a Saint Rose Aviation Club?

"The purpose of this club would be to promote interest in aviation and the bonding together of aviation enthusiasts. There are many things we could do with an aviation club. We could have speakers such as flight attendants, pilots, and air traffic controllers, come in and talk about their careers. We could watch TV specials, movies, even discuss books about aviation. This subject isn't limited to planes, either. We could expand it to include space (mainly NASA) and the military," said Bassinson.

With numerous possibilities, a Saint Rose Aviation Club, according to Bassinson, could cover everything from commercial jets to Boeing 747s, military stealth flyers and rocket ships. Open to suggestions, the aviation club could be a melting pot of aviation fanatics, who would not only share a common bond but could help future careers in aviation take flight. If aviation is a future career goal, join the club for its advantages, if aviation is more of a hobby, then having a group that shares this common interest would be a plus.

Bassinson still has faith that a Saint Rose Aviation Club could exist.

"I realize that this is a small school, and there might not be a lot of people interested in a wide variety of topics, but I think that there's a loyal following of aviation enthusiasts out there on campus," Bassinson said.

If getting a pilot's license is on your radar, or if stewardess school is calling your name, an aviation club could help. Since no one has sought that help yet, Bassinson's hopes of starting an Aviation Club, have been temporarily grounded.
