The devastating earthquake that shook the already poverty-stricken country of Haiti on Tuesday, January 12, has garnered worldwide attention and support. Reaching a magnitude of 7.0, this natural disaster killed thousands in the nation's capital of Port-au-Prince, leaving the country in shambles and its residents stripped of the basic resources needed to survive.
When the construction of the new Center for Communications and Interactive Media began, The College of Saint Rose Communications department was faced with a challenge. With all new state of the art equipment ordered for the new television studio, the faculty had to decide the fate of the old facilities previously located on the first floor of Albertus Hall.
On January 11, 2010, The College of Saint Rose received a LEED Gold award by the U.S. Green Building Council for one of the newest building additions to the campus, The Massry Center for the Arts. This award has been given to The College of Saint Rose certifying that The Massry Center for the Arts is one of the most energy-efficient buildings within the Capital Region.
On Wednesday January 13, 2010, at around 7 p.m. two men were shot inside a Pine Hills residence located on the outskirts of the Saint Rose campus. Detectives from the Albany Police Department have reason to believe that this shooting was burglary related, and the victims were not chosen at random.
